Alyssa Kim is a professional violinist based in New York City whose work spans musical theater, classical performances, and viral online content.
An active freelance and pit musician, Alyssa has performed in shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Legally Blonde, Next to Normal, and Sunday in the Park with George. She has also collaborated with renowned artists like The Piano Guys, Julia Riew, Cheeyang Ng, and she was featured in the House Band for Maestra Music’s First Takes: Classic Broadway Reimagined (2025) and August Edition (2024). In May 2025, Alyssa was invited to perform her own solo arrangement of the National Anthem for the New York Mets at Citi Field.
Alyssa’s work has taken her beyond New York City as well. In the Summer of 2025, she played violin for the College Light Opera Company in Cape Cod, MA, performing for seven productions including On the Town, Guys & Dolls, The Sound of Music, Anastasia, and more. During her time with the Oxford University Orchestra in 2024, she toured Northern Italy and performed at world-renowned venues like Teatro Ponchielli, Basilica di S. Maria Maggiore, and Auditorium Paganini. She also served as Principal Violinist of the Oxford Gershwin Players.
With over 4 million views and 10,000 followers on TikTok, Alyssa loves to share her string arrangements and covers online while experimenting with diverse musical styles like pop, jazz, classical, and folk. Her videos have been recognized by acclaimed artists like Laufey, Tori Kelly, and JVKE.
Alyssa graduated magna cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University with a degree in Music and Computer Science. There, she studied classical violin with Richard Rood and jazz violin with Victor Lin. Alyssa was also a founder and violinist of the Crown Quartet, performing for audiences of over 30,000 at Columbia University’s 2023 and 2025 Commencement Ceremonies, as well as the Inauguration of the University’s 20th President. Alyssa has been fortunate to receive mentorship from Tomoko Akaboshi through Maestra’s 2024 Mentorship Program and currently from Annaliesa Place through MUSE’s Mentorship Program.
